NewsWhip was founded to bring clarity to the noise of online media. To answer questions about which stories, posts, and narratives are getting traction among the millions that appear each day.

At NewsWhip, we aim to support projects and organizations that steer us toward a healthier digital media landscape.

Our 2023 impact report highlights the fantastic work members of our team are doing to help with everything from humanitarian catastrophes, election integrity, and deep research into the new reality where we modern humans find ourselves.

Who we support

Universities

We offer real-time engagement data from news and social media platforms to support educational institutions in their research and efforts to combat misinformation.

Not-for-profits

NewsWhip’s real-time data and predictive analytics help our non-profit partners effectively respond to emerging global trends, combat misinformation, and monitor critical societal issues.

Journalists & fact-checkers

Our technology assists journalists & fact-checkers in identifying misinformation before it begins to spread and in retroactively analyzing how narratives moved across the social web.

NewsWhip initiatives

Data for Democracy

At NewsWhip, we created the Data for Democracy program to help combat the spread of misinformation and disinformation, and to promote a better understanding of social content engagement. When the Ukrainian invasion began, we expanded the program, giving free access to NewsWhip technology, helping more than 60 fact-checkers, journalists, and researchers uncover worldwide Russian disinformation in the early days of the invasion.

Meta’s 3PFC

We partnered up with Meta to provide NewsWhip’s tools to Meta’s Third-Party Fact-Checking (3PFC) program. The goal of the partnership is to enhance fact-checking capabilities in order to deliver accurate information and combat misinformation for platform users, with more than 90 independent fact-checking organizations participating in the program.

Academic support

NewsWhip has played a vital role in enhancing educational research by granting access to real-time engagement data sourced from news and social media platforms. This resource has allowed researchers to gain deeper insights into trends and identify and counter misinformation.

Track the real-world stories that matters

“NewsWhip Spike was probably the most useful tool to help us out in what we were doing. We always had this tension between ‘putting fuel on the fire’ or the question of ‘are we too late,’ and the story has traveled halfway around the world already. That was really where Spike came into its own.”
