The Biggest Twitter Publishers of January 2014

February 10, 2014

Following on from our January Facebook publishers rankings, here are the biggest Twitter publishers of last month, according to our Spike database.

Top 10 Twitter Publishers, January 2014

Since we started compiling these charts back in September, the BBC has consistently topped the charts. There was no change in January, with the British publisher clocking up a new record of just over 2.7m shares.

Unlike Facebook publishers, the Twitter top 10 see virtually no change in the rankings order. They stayed almost the exact same from December’s numbers, with ABC climbing to eighth place ahead of BuzzFeed, and NBC News taking tenth spot to force out Fox.
At the top, we see the relentless rise of the BBC, whose presence on Twitter now seems untouchable.
When we started publishing these rankings last August, there were just two publishers – the BBC and Mashable – getting over 1m Twitter shares of content published in a given month. There are now five, with the Huffington Post also close to crossing into the seven figure range. That shows impressive engagement growth, which can be seen right down through the top 50. In December, the 50th entry had 137,500 shares. One month later, it took The Atlantic 177,000 shares to land in the same position.
As ever, feel free to download the data below, and come to your own conclusions.
We compiled our data using Spike, which tracks the content that people are sharing and engaging with in real time. It’s used by some of the world’s leading digital newsrooms (including the BBC, the Huffington Post and News Corp).
