As we recently hit the halfway point of 2023, we took the opportunity to look back on the top publishers in Singapore over the past three months to see who came out on top in Q2 2023.Â
Our rankings are determined by using NewsWhip’s Spike and API technology, which sums the aggregated likes, shares, and comments on content produced by the outlets in the rankings.Â
Now, let’s take a closer look at the data. Before we begin, it’s worth noting that this analysis was covering English-language only publication.
Singapore’s top publishers in Q2 2023
The Straits Times — an English-language daily broadsheet newspaper — claimed the top spot on the top websites chart once again with 3.2M engagements. Mothership.sg, which was only launched in 2014, followed closely behind with 2.7M engagements, while channelnewsasia.com (CNA) secured third place with 1.7M engagements.Â
The Straits Times’ success this year can be attributed to their publication of a diverse range of stories. Their top story was about an employee at a Chinese company winning 365 days of paid leave (25.5k), while the rest of the top three articles included stories of a woman’s journey to the hospital after her water broke (25.4k), and a dog resembling the beloved cartoon character, Snoopy (23.2k). The newspaper’s versatility has proven to be a key factor in engaging readers and contributing to their success thus far.
Mothership also had a variety in their stories with articles, with some of them having higher levels of engagement when compared to The Straits Times. Their top three articles included stories about a Singaporean boy with autism celebrating Hari Raya with his classmates (36.2k), a wealthy lady in China who washes dishes to pass the time (30.6k), and an owl resembling a fluffball (28.8k).Â
CNA’s most popular stories focused on Singapore swimmer Quah Ting Wen being named best athlete (8.8k), and Cristiano Ronaldo’s visit to Singapore (8.6k).
